The popular video sharing website which was created in 2005 has over 1.8 billion users and garners over 15 billion views per month. Through its Partner Program, YouTube rewards uploaders of popular videos with a share from the revenues resulting from the advertisement on their page. This has resulted in birthing YouTube celebrities. These days, these YouTube celebrities and content creators have an audience size that rivals that of traditional television, with top performers reaching more viewers on a weekly basis than even the most popular cable programs. Some of them have made the jump to the big screen, starring major motion pictures, while others continue to film skits and commentary from their bedrooms. Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, better known as PewDiePie, is a Swedish-based video game review and vlogger. After dropping out from college in 2010 to focus on the content for his YouTube channel which surpassed one million subscribers two years after its creation and became the most subscribed-to YouTube channel in the World in December 2013, Kjellberg’s influence on the social network has also had a positive effect on the sales of indie video games. He was also named one of Time’s Most Influential People in 2016. The YouTube star also happens to be a controversial figure as he came under fire for his anti-Semitic jokes and racial slurs causing Disney and YouTube to cut business ties with him although he has not been banned from YouTube.
